ORLANDO MAIN STREETS PROGRAM

Recognizing the important role neighborhood commercial districts play in the overall health of the City’s neighborhoods, in 2008 Mayor Buddy Dyer and the Orlando City Council created Orlando Main Streets. With annual financial support, technical assistance and intensive training from the City of Orlando, Orlando Main Street Districts create, define and strengthen our commercial districts in the City.

Each District creates an individual work plan envisioned and implemented by a nonprofit Board of Directors. Orlando Main Streets serve as the economic backbone for the City’s existing neighborhoods.

Orlando Main Street Districts receive technical assistance and training in the Main Street Four Point™ approach from Orlando Main Streets and the Main Street America. In turn, each Main Street organization hires a full time Executive Director, raises matching funds, incorporates its organization and implements its programs according to an annual work plan.

“She said, SHOW ME THE ROI!”

Just the other day I was discussing the value of the organization with a prospective new member. She asked me point blank, “What’s the ROI”?

The benefits to a membership with the Sodo District are many.

NEIGHBORHOOD IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT CITY OF ORLANDO

The Downtown South Neighborhood Improvement District (the “DSNID”) is a special purpose local government. Its single purpose is to support the redevelopment and improvement of the Downtown South neighborhood, an area of approximately 720 acres located south of Downtown Orlando (the “District”).

THE SODO NEIGHBORHOOD IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT MASTER PLAN
The Downtown South NID Advisory Council is currently preparing a Master Plan to identify services and capital improvements that could potentially be funded through a levy and/or special assessment on property within the district, if approved by referendum.

For additional information on the Neighborhood Improvement District Plan please visit their official site! There you will find information on meetings, the advisory council, past presentations and more!

Patty Sheehan District 4 Commissioner

Patty Sheehan is the District 4 Commissioner. She looks forward to continuing to work with you on building an even stronger sense of community. She believes one of the key components to making this happen is to provide citizens with easy-to-access information about what is happening in our district, and that is where the website becomes important.

Be sure to look at the District Calendar for the current months events, or if you just have a question or comment about the site, please don’t hesitate to contact her office.

Also, PLEASE NOTE she do not use Twitter or MySpace (but I am on Facebook), and anyone who claims to be “Patty Sheehan” on these other sites is an imposter.

For more information on Patty Sheehan and District 4 click HERE to be directed to the City of Orlando webpage.

Mayra Uribe District 3 Commissioner

Commissioner Mayra Uribe is a dedicated wife, mother, and business owner. She is a first-generation American born and raised in District 3 of Orange County.

For nearly 8 years, Commissioner Uribe served as an aide to U.S Senator Bill Nelson, where she helped the citizens of Florida deal with issues they had with the military, FEMA, immigration, transportation, and labor matters. That experience hardened her resolve to serve her community.

Commissioner Uribe has dedicated her life to help others by working with nonprofit (Catholic Charities, Christian Service Center, Healthy Start and Boot Camp for New Dads) charities and churches, as well as raising awareness for Central Florida’s homeless children and families through various campaigns and efforts. She also co-hosts a nightly radio show on ESPN 580 Orlando.

As a business woman, she understands the concerns of those calling Central Florida home. While the economy has strengthened for some, not everyone is feeling that their county government has done enough to address their needs.

Commissioner Uribe has had the great pleasure of raising her family in this vibrant and diverse community. Her family, faith, and focus for our community’s future gives her the strength and encouragement to make a difference.

Design

Everything from streetscape design to utility box painting. If you are interested in improving the way our district looks, this is your committee.

Promotions

Our event experts, social chairs, marketing and PR gurus, networkers and official party-throwers. Help us put on our next great event!

Economic Vitality

Focusing primarily on improving, growing and supporting our district businesses, through local events, networking and marketing.

Ready to get involved, join a committee.

Right now, the Board is issuing a call to action for volunteers who are needed to form committees around the four program goals. The committees are an active part of making the SoDo District a success, you should expect to commit at least 8-10 hours a month on the committee.

If you have the time and interest, please email Misty Heath at director@sododistrict.org and indicate which committee you are interested in: promotion, design, economic vitality, or organization.
